Information On Cancer Metastasis Research

Doctors have done their best to come up with as many vaccines and cures for diseases as possible to prevent further affecting of the human tissues. They even came up with antiretroviral drugs to help manage the HIV/AIDS epidemic. However, although they have tried, they are yet to find a way to deal with cancer without drastic repercussions. The article below elaborates more on cancer metastasis research.

When cancer is identified in its early stages, it may be easier to deal with. An original tumor can be removed through surgery and or radiation therapy. However, if detected later, it is harder to manage. This is because a tumor will have spread to other parts of the body. The spread of a tumor is what leads to sickness and even death.

Although it may tough for growth to spread it still does. The growth cells have to put in more effort in order to affect the body cells. There are protective barriers for the normal cells which the growth cells have to bypass. They ensure that their adhesion is different from that of other cells in order to move in an easier way.

The spreading process is usually not very effective. A very minimum percentage of tumor cells that enter the bloodstream can actually spread growth. However, every kind of cancer is examined for the level of risk of it spreading. It is then treated according to the likeliness of it spreading. However, for a more advanced stage of growth, the chances of spreading are a lot higher.

For tumor cells, they have two main ways in which they can move around. They can use the blood vessels going to the tumor or the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is easier as they go on to form lymph nodes that are taken out and studied to determine the level of tumor after surgery. The bloodstream is a tough place for a tumor cell and chances of survival are very low.

As much as the bloodstream environment is harsh for the growth cells, they have an opportunity at saving themselves. They can always align themselves with endothelial cells. These are cells that are found along the walls of the blood vessels and can retract. Once they retract, space is created for the growth cells and they can plan their attack on the tissue.

When the cells are detached from the primary tumor, the chances of survival may not be very high. However, they may find that they have landed in a different organ. If the organ does provide favorable conditions for the growth of a new tumor, the cells will multiply. This tumor is known as a secondary tumor and is definitely different from the primary tumor.

As above mentioned, the change in the cell structure causes difficulty in tumor treatment. A treatment that may work on the primary tumor may not have any effect on the secondary tumor. Therefore, the only way to treat tumor that has not spread is by removing the primary tumor. For metastatic tumor, it is best to consult a professional.
