From the outside, it can appear as if you have a good marriage and family life. People will love the fact that the spouse is ready to help his or her partner. It often happens with a couple, and one finds that you can't escape from this pattern. It is important to look at the symptoms. Some parents or spouses are protective, but when this goes to the extreme where they feel they need to keep watch on them all of the time, it is necessary to look into counseling. The individual has to realize that they can't always be there to rescue the person from a situation. A child, for example who is involved in a relationship like this won't learn from their mistakes because the parent is always running in and rescuing them.

There are different methods that therapists use. Talking about various problems in the home is one way to get started. It can take some time to get through to the individual. However, the real way in which one needs to deal with this is by getting to the route of the problem.
