The Importance Of The Condensation Sensor

By Stephanie Perry

Technology has come a long way and continues to provide improvements in our lives. The benefits it provides can be found in our homes and in our vehicles. Everything from GPS to a simple condensation sensor can be found in a list of technological improvements in life. The condensation device is one that can be found in both places. Originally it was used with the clothes dryer. With it in place, the dryer would be able to test the moisture coming from the clothes and stop when they were dry. This helps reduce wear on them because the clothes will not continue to be cooked in the dryer when they are no longer wet. This same type of device can be found in vehicles and helps keep the window clear to provide safer driving conditions.

A fog monitor is able to detect humidity inside the window and prevent it from getting foggy. A window that is fogged up causes dangerous conditions and is often the blame for accidents. Having a system that will keep the inside of the glass clear of moisture makes it so the drive doesn't have to continually wipe the glass while driving. It also keeps the glass clear so the driver can see out and not be obstructed in his or her view. There are devices for just the front glass and all other windows as well.

The rain-sensor adjusts the windshield wipers in inclement weather. On cloudy days, the need to have intermittent wipers is obvious. Little raindrops are annoying but so is having the wipers running full blast. Most cars today have the timer included so you can put the wipers on delay. The auto-sensor will be able to see or measure how much water is building up on the glass and run the wipers as needed so the driver isn't having to constantly adjust the wiper to the conditions. When sitting at a stop light the rain may not build up, but when the driver takes off it will and the sensor will detect that and adjust.

Turning the rain meter on is simple. Using the car's dash menu, find your way to the wipers section. Within here is the setting to turn it on or off. When it is on, you can set your wiper handle to the automatic or A setting and let the vehicle handle what is needed. Setting your lights to the same automatic setting lets the rain meter turn on the front and rear running lights when it detects possible conditions where having the lights on would be a safer bet.

For drivers that want more control, the system can be turned off. Sometimes when you are waiting for someone to arrive and the car is on, you may not want the wipers to run in the rain or have the lights off. Turning the knobs to manual off settings will keep the system from activating them. You can also go back through the dash menu and turn it off there. If you do this, they will not turn on when in auto mode on the knobs, so you'll need to remember to turn it back on through the dash.

Glass technicians well detach the devices. If you need the glass replaced, be sure to let the shop know that you have these devices on your car. They will usually be detachable and can easily be connected to the new glass. In some cases, the new glass will need to have new devices on them before replacement.

Replacing them should be done by a mechanic. They will make sure they are the right ones for your particular vehicle and test them to be sure they work. If they do not match the car or are not installed properly, they will not work as designed.

Having these types of devices in the car can be lifesavers. The ability to keep the window clean and clear is critical to driving in bad weather. If your car doesn't come with them, you might consider having them installed aftermarket.
